Manufactured Stone Veneer Selection

What exactly is Manufactured Stone Veneer (MSV)?

MSV, or manufactured stone veneer, serves as a lightweight architectural element utilized for both exterior and interior surfaces, providing a decorative touch. Crafted from concrete, it mimics the hues and textures found in natural stone. Premium manufacturers meticulously replicate these natural features by using molds derived from genuine stone. The outcome is a sturdy, slim layer of stone veneer, offering the illusion of a solid stone structure.

Indoors, MSV finds its place in various settings including living areas, fireplaces, kitchens, bathrooms, stairwells, and even wine cellars. Outdoors, it garners attention in applications ranging from complete facades to entryways, landscape features, outdoor kitchens, and fire pits.

The Story Behind Manufactured Stone Veneer

The genesis of manufactured stone veneer dates back to 1962 when brothers Garrett and Floyd Brown, hailing from Vallejo, California, identified a niche in the construction materials market. These enterprising siblings, who were adept in plastering, conceived MSV as a blend of concrete cast into supple molds and hand-tinted with iron oxide pigments to emulate natural stone. Composed of lightweight aggregates, these veneers weighed merely a quarter of their natural stone counterparts, effortlessly adhering to most wall surfaces.

Initially, the Browns’ enterprise served local dealers in Northern California, yet its success propelled it to expand its product range and distribution. Before long, their offerings were available across the United States and Canada.

The Advantages of Manufactured Stone Veneer

Continual advancements in research and development have led to innovative and aesthetically pleasing manufactured stone products. Many collections have broadened their scope beyond traditional stone to encompass contemporary profiles reminiscent of tile, brick, and wood. Furthermore, manufacturers have introduced panelized products to expedite installation without compromising on visual appeal, thus addressing design and installation challenges effectively.
