PREPARATION
Compact and moisten the base material. Place forms and reinforcing steel as needed. When repairing concrete, remove all loose and/or deteriorated material as well as any surface contaminants such as oil, paint, grease, etc.
MIXING
Empty the contents of the bag into a clean wheelbarrow, mortar box, mechanical mixer or other mixing vessel. Form a crater with a shovel or hoein the center of the dry mix. Pour the recommended 3.5 quarts (3.3 L)of clean potable water into the crater.
Caution
An excessive amount of water will weaken the mix and can result in cracking. Add small quantities, 1 pint (0.5 L) or less, of water and thoroughly mix to reduce stiffness.
For hand mixing
Blend dry mix with a shovel or hoe from the outer edges working the material towards the center. Continue mixing until all free water is used and all the aggregate is uniformly coated with cement.
For mechanical mixing
Mix the material for three minutes.
PLACEMENT
Place material until it slightly overfills the forms. Consolidate to remove any voids by using manual or mechanical vibration. Strikeoff with a screed or straight edge board.
FINISHING
Allow bleedwater to evaporate before finishing. Use a float to achieve a smooth finish or a broom for a rougher surface. Caution – Overworking could weaken the surface and result in cracking, dusting or scaling.
CURING
Dampen with a fine mist of water for 24 hours or moist cure with wet burlap and polyethylene. Alternatively, apply ProMasonry Cure & Seal. Protect from direct sunlight, wind, rain and frost during the curing period.
CLEAN UP
Clean tools and equipment with water immediately after use. Cured material will need to be mechanically removed. ProMasonry High Strength Concrete meets or exceeds ASTM C387 specification for compressive strengths when used as directed.
